New York City-based Hachette Book Group has announced plans to invest nearly $21 million to expand its warehousing and distribution facility in Lebanon.

The company said the 164,000-square-foot expansion will result in the hiring of additional staff, but did not give a specific number.

Hachette began operations in Boone County in 1996 and currently employs about 500 people. Its multi-building facility near Interstate 65 between State Road 32 and State Road 39 already has about 1.8 million square feet of space.

“The expansion of Hachette Book Group’s facility in Lebanon is a testament of our strong community development and workforce,” said Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry in written remarks. “We are excited that Hachette is continuing to succeed and invest in Lebanon.”

Hachette Book Group is a leading U.S. trade publisher and a division of the third largest trade and educational book publisher in the world, Hachette Livre, which is based in France. It operates 10 facilities in the U.S.

The expansion is set to break ground in March.
