The trees in Eagle Creek Park are already reducing carbon. If a company wants to volunteer to pay additional “carbon taxes” to fix the questionable ideology of human climate change, this will offset normal park maintenance costs; I guess that’s OK. Maybe this new voluntary tax (Offset Credits) collected can offset current taxes to fix the horrible neighborhood roads. It’s not surprising that Indianapolis elected policymakers often spew symbolism over any substance. Let’s be honest; this really is about greenwashing so a company can check the green box.

Carbon credits are a feel-good joke that don’t actually do anything. We are not led by serious people.
When/if the department of Parks and Recreation lands up doing this, they need to keep track of every second they spend on this. And then please don’t call it a failure because it is too hard. I wager that it will cost Indy a lot to get this going.
And my advice to all carbon credits organizations across the United States is to not answer the phone when the department of Parks and Recreation calls unless there is a lucrative consulting contract in place. We often lament capitalism, but it is not fair to just take their expertise for free.
This marketplace is a component of climate acton that can address activities that individuals and corporations cannot do themselves (stop flying on airplanes for example).
