5 thoughts on “COVID era of big spending gives way to new focus on deficit

  1. The time to care about the deficit… if Republicans actually cared about deficits … was when times were good.

Republicans only care about deficits when there is a Democratic president. When there is a Republican president, we get more tax cuts that explode the deficit, sold under the lie that they’ll pay for themselves.

Do Democrats spend too much? Yeah. Republicans don’t collect enough. Both issues are just as bad.

    1. Is 3.5% unemployment rate “bad times”? It is as good as time as ever to tighten the belt.

    2. Now’s the time to increase our income.

I’ll take Republicans seriously on the deficit when they pair their spending cuts with tax increases.

Or, heck, not complaining about the idea of properly staffing the IRS so they can both collect the taxes owed (which are being under collected) and give proper customer service.

People love the idea of cutting the government as long as their favorite program isn’t cut. News flash – everyone has different programs.

But the time to deal with this is with the budget in a few months, not with the debt ceiling.

Republicans using the debt ceiling to extort Joe Biden are just being domestic terrorists.

    3. Joe B – your bias is showing. It doesn’t take much research to reveal that BOTH sides have used the debt ceiling as a lever to achieve (extort) objectives they seek. Pelosi did it a few years ago, Biden was part of a “negotiation” a number of years ago as Senator. Republicans do it, Democrats do it. About the only thing in Washington D.C. that never gets addressed is hypocrisy.
