Interesting statement that begs some questions.
“The insurers are blaming the higher cost and use of medical care, hospital services and prescription medications, which they say have climbed steeply in recent years.”
What does, “…in recent years” mean? Between 2020-2024 perhaps? What specific types of medical care/services/prescription meds are driving the spike? Why, in their opinion, have costs “climbed steeply” in recent years?
Insurers are part of the issue, tho they like to blame it on hospitals and healthcare systems. The hospitals and healthcare systems receive what the insurance companies are willing to pay, just like with Medicaid and Medicare. The payments are negotiated between the parties, meaning both sides have a say in the pricing. For “fun” let’s review the five mentioned entities revenue for 2024; United Healthcare +$14.4 billion, Elevance (Anthem) + $6 billion, Caresource + $1 billion, Signa – $4 billion and Coordinated Care Corp + $2.1 million. Interesting how the largest are making the most yet still feel the need to gouge the insured. Also helps to deny those services, helps the bottomline.
