Smoke in mirrors.
Just watch the brick and mortar.
Every health system in Indiana is building more facilities each year…
So true. While some of that build may be justified by the age of existing hospital and inability to keep it up to code, HVAC issues, etc., a lot is just “having a new, flashy toy” in some CEO mind.
CEO or comparable title and other high level leadership of hospitals continue to rake in 6–8 figure annual salary and bonuses But the hands on workers (nurses, aides, maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, IT, pharmacy staff, etc) barely get a 1% annual raise.
Staff wear mandatory uniforms BUT have to buy themselves from a designated vendor-How’s that fair?
Where my spouse works, unit has broken dirty laundry hamper and “can’t have replacement cause it’s not in the budget”
Couldn’t resonate more! My wife works for a local hospital as well and the corners that are being cut due to “budget restraints” are inexcusable. All the while the C-Suites are raking in money and building new facilities…Hospitals quit your complaining and start focus on supporting your current staff.
Also on the staff part, they keep hiring under qualified contract nurses that don’t even show up on time at a higher wage than their full-time employed nurses. Sounds like they need to take care of their own first and focus on internal professional and personal growth. They are the ones busting their butts to keep people healthy and get healed.
Just try to request any NFP Hospital’s Form 990, that is supposed to be public knowledge yet is so hard to find anywhere because you will see their profit and how much compensation they pay executives. Kind of makes you think they are should also pay taxes like all other businesses. The only difference is they spend everything they can on new buildings, salaries, etc…to continue this charade.

Membership is free. 990s are included in the company profiles.
Expiration dates on medical supplies is/are hammering hospitals’ bottom lines. The amount of surgical supplies (sutures, catheters, stents, etc) that have to be removed from the shelves monthly due to ‘expiration’ is mind-boggling. Cardinal Health, Medline, Cook, Boston Scientific, Stryker, Ethicon… just to name a few, are executing one of the most reprehensible scams that exists in today’s marketplace. And they all have Congress in their back pockets.
I was in a room RESENTLY that had a clock that was right 2 times per day and had been that way for 2 years said the staff! How we do somethings is how we do all things!
