Meghan Markle, the duchess of Sussex, is scheduled to participate in a Women’s Fund of Central Indiana event on Nov. 29.
Billed as “The Power of Women: An Evening with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex,” the benefit will support the Women’s Fund mission to invest in the lives of women and girls in central Indiana.
“Women’s Fund of Central Indiana believes in the force of women’s voices, women’s experiences and women’s work,” said Tavonna Harris Askew, advisory board chair, in a written statement. “We know that Meghan, the duchess of Sussex does, too. We are honored that she will join us on this special evening to celebrate our common cause—the power of women.”
Markle, who married Prince Harry in 2018, grew up in the United States and acted in the cast of USA Network series “Suits” from 2011 to 2018. She and Prince Harry stepped down as British senior royals in 2020.
Rabbi Sandy Sasso will serve as moderator for the event at Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, 350 W. Maryland St. Tables for 10 attendees are available for $5,000. For more information, visit womensfund.org.
The Women’s Fund, a special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation, invited 20 high school students to attend the event as guests representing their communities.
In 2018, Michelle Obama participated in a Women’s Fund of Central Indiana event at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Meghan was not born into wealth or fame or greatness. She made her mark, earning fame and fortune, as an actor. Marrying Harry might have enlarged the spotlight on her, but it did not add “greatness.” That is not to say she and her husband will not do great things.
There is NOTHING great about her.
Leave it to Brent, the IBJ’s signature normie, to defend Markle. Brent, why do you even pretend to be a disillusioned Republican? You agree with the Dems’ platform more than most Dems do.
And yes, I would rather have MTG or Lauren Bobert. Or Sarah Palin. Or Taylor Swift or Natalie Portman, for that matter. Heck, I’d rather have AOC or Ilhan Omar, just in case you still think I’m partisan. Every one of these people is more self-made than Markle, who was a C-level actress before all this and was no more or less of a celeb than the con artist Jussie Smollett. I will at least grant that Markle is very sharp and is attractive without looking “done”–but she’s a textbook example of a Cluster B Personality Disorder.
That said, Markle is still lightyears more luminous that the other Meghan (Megan)–that toothpaste-haired soccer harridan whose bilious inner rage makes her look 15 years older than she is.

It IS, first and foremost, a charitable fundraiser. $500 a seat is not bad, all things considered.
I wonder if she is going to preach to the crowd about climate change as she flies to the city on her private jet.
But the greatest impact to climate change can be attributed to individual use of vehicles. Climate is changing. Whether one changes habit is an individual choice. One could decide to walk or bike. Or, perhaps one would ski the drive to [name the destination]. Rather than fly one could drive and save energy, or perhaps take Amtrak (if operating) to save carbon footprint?
Preach or simply restate comments that have been made before.
Do Indiana residents not drive or fly? Would another so-called dignitary have come to Indianapolis by a much more climate-conscious and fuel efficient means?
Would a commercial jet be preferable to a private jet? How did she arrive by the way? Did she eat beef (major impact to climate for its production)?
Was money raised?
The point, Derek, is that people like Meghan have a socioeconomic platform by which to lecture the rest of us, and their standard of living–getting around, heating/cooling their homes (plural), and providing similar creature comforts for their entourage–is such that it is fundamentally impossible for them NOT to have a significantly higher carbon footprint than us humble peasants.
Why are so many leftists contorting themselves to defend the plutocrats? It’s so weird! Almost as weird as calling Markle a “dignitary”.

In the IBJ’s defense, this probably is news because of the price tag of the gala and the muckety-mucks of the Indy business community are all that can afford it. They’re also the only ones gullible enough to think “the Duchess” has got a shred of authenticity behind her appeal.
I’m nostalgic for the days when business leaders were at least decent people in theory. Now they don’t even hide the fact that they’re a den of rats, because, while rats tend to shrink from the exposure of sunlight (the best disinfectant), these days the Fourth Estate puts cloaks on all the streetlights so they can safely scurry away from scrutiny.

There are so many more accomplished, generous, philanthropic and dynamic women that should have been invited. This fairy tale has never been more than just that – a fairy tale. Her only powers are through her marriage. Influential and strong self-made women should stop pandering to this silly ideal. Solid pass.

The daily mail out of the UK is reporting that she has been paid over a million dollars to speak. I don’t see how this charity is going to end on a positive note $wise after spending that much money.
