Maybe Walker Information should send Al Gore a thank you note. The local company walked away from the Cisco Growing with Technology Awards in San Jose with a runner-up plaque.

The company helps clients improve customer loyalty. That used to mean picking up the phone and asking people what a company could do to improve. Today it means hitting the send button on an email.

In 2000, Walker created proprietary technology known as The Walker Smart-Loyalty System. The program allows Walker clients, such as CDW, a computer retailer based in Vernon Hills, Ill., to instantly poll thousands of people online.

The results speak for themselves. The
company has conducted 800,000 surveys since 2004, a 52-fold increase in five years. That means not only better data for clients, but also enormous efficiencies for Walker, the company said.

“(The award is) a testament to our commitment to integrating technology with other critical and long-standing business processes to help companies think more strategically about their customer relationships,” said President and CEO Steve Walker in a prepared statement.

Walker is a privately owned company specializing in loyalty management. It has approximately 250 employees in its offices in the United States and Canada.

The Cisco Growing with Technology Awards recognize organizations for innovative use of network technology.
