The Friday arrest of Daniel Annee, 46, follows an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Indianapolis Fire Investigations Section. The unit is comprised of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detectives and Indianapolis Fire Department investigators.
The complaint alleges that at the end of July the ATF office in Indianapolis received information from two individuals that Annee wanted someone to burn down a commercial building he co-owned on the south side of Indianapolis.
During the next two weeks, federal agents and local investigators recorded a number of phone calls and meetings in which Annee allegedly discussed his desire to have the office building at 431 E. Hanna Ave. destroyed by fire.
One of the meetings, videotaped by investigators, occurred inside the Hanna Avenue building on Aug. 12, at which time Annee allegedly gave an undercover investigator, posing as an arsonist, $500 in cash and a key to the building. Annee also gave the investigator a tour of the building, suggested locations where the fire might be set, and told him he wanted the fire set on Aug.15, according to the complaint.
The complaint further alleges that Annee planned to collect on a $600,000 insurance policy. He was arrested without incident on Friday as he arrived at his office in Indianapolis.
The maximum penalty for solicitation is 10 years, or half the maximum sentence for arson, which also carries a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
