Subscribe NowAn Indianapolis family of five was displaced Tuesday morning after a fire ripped through their southwest-side home. Firefighters arrived on the scene in the 1400 block of Kappes Street about 7 a.m. and found heavy fire and thick black smoke. The homeowners told firefighters they left all four stovetop burners on high in order to help heat the home during a morning when outside temperatures were in the low single digits. The fire broke out about 10 minutes later, they said.
