Ice Miller LLP announced Friday morning that Steven Humke has been named the law firm’s new chief managing partner.

Humke, a corporate lawyer whose practice involves complex business and financing transactions, begins his duties Jan. 1. He succeeds Phil Bayt.

Serving with Humke on the firm’s management team are deputy managing partners Judy Okenfuss, Richard Barnhart and John Burke.

Humke, the son of former Indiana Bell CEO Ray Humke, has helped put together numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions involving local companies. He is known for writing the state contract that leased the Indiana Toll Road to Cintra-Macquarie for $3.8 billion.

The chief managing partner is elected by the partners of the firm. The deputy managing partners are nominated by the chief managing partner and ratified by the partners.

With 189 local lawyers, Ice Miller is the city’s third-largest law firm, according to IBJ statistics, trailing Barnes & Thornburg LLP and Faegre Baker Daniels LLP.
