Dawes Fretzin Dermatology Group LLC is planning an expansion that includes a new $7.2 million headquarters in Castleton and 15 additional high-paying jobs.

The Indianapolis-based dermatology practice has received preliminary approval for tax breaks from the city of Indianapolis to help it pay for a 30,000-square-foot free-standing facility at 7910 and 7930 N. Shadeland Ave., just south of the Extended Stay America hotel and the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Castleton.

The project is expected to create 15 jobs at an average wage of $45 an hour and retain 64 jobs that pay an average of $48 per hour, according to city filings.

Dawes Fretzin is currently headquartered nearby at 8103 Clearvista Parkway on the campus of Community Hospital North, near the intersection of Shadeland and 82nd street.

The 20-year-old medical partnership has two additional offices in Indianapolis, plus offices in Anderson and Kokomo.

Staff members for the Department of Metropolitan Development who reviewed the request recommended Dawes Fretzin receive a five-year abatement that would save the company about 60 percent on its real property taxes over that period.

That equates to an estimated total savings of $392,000. The company would still pay about $261,500 in real property taxes over the five-year period, plus an estimated $131,000 annually after the abatement period ends. That’s in addition to the nearly $30,000 currently being paid on the property.

DMD members said the project would benefit Lawrence Township in terms of job creation and retention while leading to “future investment and development in Marion County.”

The Metropolitan Development Commission gave preliminary approval to the tax breaks this month. Another hearing is set for Wednesday.

Dawes Fretzin provides numerous dermatology services, including medical, surgical and cosmetic.
