The new facility will cost $10 million to $12 million to build and will feature a freestanding emergency department. It will operate 24 hours a day.
Duke Realty Corp. and BremnerDuke Healthcare are the developers. Construction is expected to begin this spring and be completed by fall 2009.
The new facility will create about 50 jobs under the Witham organization. Those jobs will pay an average of $75,000 apiece.
In a statement, Witham and St. Vincent officials said the new facility would improve access to emergency care for residents in the Anson, Whitestown and Zionsville communities.
Ed Abel, director of health care services at Blue & Co., an Indianapolis accounting firm, said the deal represents what could be a trend of suburban hospitals forming partnerships with larger, tertiary care hospitals.
“You contrast what they’re doing with what’s happening on I-69 where there is not duplication but triplication, and there is absolutely no cooperation,” he said. “That’s part of the reason health care costs have gotten outrageous.”
The medical facility also will include a full array of radiology and laboratory services. The facility would not perform surgeries or keep patients overnight, but board-certified physicians will stabilize patients and transfer them to a hospital of the patient’s choice or medical necessity.
The second floor of the building will house physician offices and physical therapy services.
