Tiffany Olson has resigned as CEO of Roche Diagnostics’ North American headquarters for “personal reasons,” the company announced this morning.

Olson’s replacement is Michael Tillmann, who has been head of Roche’s Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore. Tillman will arrive in Indianapolis on Thursday, according to Roche spokeswoman Doyia Turner.

Olson said she was resigning for “personal reasons,” but did not elaborate, according to Turner. Olson, 48, had been CEO here for nearly three years. Her career at Roche started in Indianapolis in 1997. She previously served a stint at the company’s corporate headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.

The company makes both pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.

Roche’s 2,800 Indianapolis employees received an e-mail with the news of Olson’s departure yesterday at 5 p.m.

Turner noted that under Olson, Roche’s U.S. business in the past two years had significantly boosted its sales growth. She emphasized that Olson’s departure was “totally by her choice.”

Earlier this month, Roche Diagnostics announced that it would transfer 300 local jobs to Germany over the next three years.

In March, Roche announced that its local work force would grow by about 340 jobs by the end of 2010. As a result, Roche will transfer an equal number of jobs from its campus at 96th Street and Hague Road to the Marsh Supermarkets headquarters building nearby.
