  1. Maybe someone should remind Huston redistricting was voted on by the citizens of California, not pushed by through a bunch of hacks trying to please a man who wants to be our dictator. I hope every single rep who voted in favor of the redistricting is voted out in the next election. The GOP of the past no longer exists.

    1. Exactly.

Unfortunately, in Indiana, we (the people) do not have the ability to call a referendum.

We are not smart enough to govern ourselves. Ask your rep if they would support allowing public referendum, responses can be priceless.

  2. “There were pretty dramatic steps taken in California and Virginia. I think, for a lot of us, that told us this is a national issue and Indiana can’t bury its head in the sand,” Huston said.” LOL!! You’re in Indiana, buddy! And you guys seem to keep your head in the sand.

  3. Braun wants real conservatives?

The guy who flies at taxpayer expense back to Jasper multiple times a month and his taxpayer funded helipad on his property?

The guy who thinks the answer to the high cost of childcare is for parents to bring their infant to work and have your co-workers pitch in to help?

    Oh yeah, totally in touch.

  4. I cannot fully express my dismay and disgust that Indiana’s elected officials have sold out their constituents – the people who elected them and the people they swore to serve – to serve a Washington power play. All the explanations and excuses in the world cannot hide the fact that our legislature is putting allegiance to Washington ahead of allegiance to Hoosiers.

And the pure audacity of saying “we have to do it to keep a Republican majority in Congress” just puts it out in the open – our representatives are no longer on the side of Hoosiers, but are actively working against us.

I, for one, will be actively working to vote out legislators (and others…) who voted to serve Washington instead of Hoosiers.

    Lifelong conservative, and former Republican.

    1. I would like to say + 1, but I am sure the Democrats will infuriate me between now and then, so we’ll see

BTW, I don’t ever once remember a comment here from a Democrat being embarrassed by the Dementia in Chief, or racial quotas, or Defund the Police! or their party’s institutional hatred for Israel

    2. Merit, excellence and innovation?

Headline: Noem’s rush to bolster ICE’s members means applicants who can ‘barely read or write’ are being accepted, report says

“total novices are being fast-tracked into the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia, where instructors have been left astounded at the levels of incompetence.

‘We have people failing open-book tests and we have folks that can barely read or write English,’ one Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official told the Daily Mail.

‘We even had a 469-lb man sent to the academy whose own doctor certified him not at all fit for any physical activity.’

Insiders say the vetting process has been so rushed that officials didn’t even wait for drug test results to come back before hiring recruits and flying them off to Georgia, only to discover afterward that tests came back positive.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem told President Trump on Tuesday that the department will hire its 10,000th ICE officer within ten days.”

  5. How about that quote from the Bill sponsor Rep. Ben Smaltz of Auburn, IN (Population of 13,989) “…..while census anchors the process, nothing prevents the legislature from revisiting the maps when circumstances demand it”. Uhhh? What circumstances? Floods, mud slide, earthquake, or some natural disaster or just one party wanting to ignore the theory or representation for all? Modern Communism is at the door step and one party is opening the door and welcoming it with open arms.

    1. That party is the Democrats. New York City democrats just elected a self-described socialist and communist as its mayor.

If you ever have a question of what the Democrats are doing, just look at their finger pointing and their accusations – it reveals exactly what they are doing. If they call you a liar – it’s they who are lying. If they call you a Dictator, it’s they who desire it. If they call you a communist, it’s they who admire it. If they say your comments are inflammatory – it’s they who are igniting the fire of those who would start riots, attempt to kill a president, or actually kill a conservative speaker. If they say you are causing inflation, it’s the Democrats under Biden who caused it with 4 years of loose money policies.

I could go on and on. It’s going to take a year or two to fix what the Democrats broke – but we are getting closer every day!

  6. “Revisiting maps when circumstances demand it” is just another way of saying “when Trump says jump we ask how high?” The simple truth is that Trump has come to the conclusion that his majority rule in the House is seriously threatened, a circumstance that no thanks to his own dismal performance made worse by a cowardly do-nothing Republican caucus that lives in mortal fear of their Dear Leader. This is how autocracies behave.

    1. I don’t know why all of you are so upset – you still have the same number of Democrats living in the state – the number of voters hasn’t changed. So put your money where your mouth is and elect Democrats to all 4 seats in Marion County if your party and your way is so far superior to the Republicans! Otherwise, stop complaining.

The fact is those seats are not guaranteed Rs or Ds. Let’s just see which party the voters want.

    2. That’s what the Republican Party wants, Brent. A fauxmocracy like Russia, Hungary, or Turkey. Socialism for the rich.

    3. cough cough. Nancy Pelosi was the biggest autocrat ever to run the U.S. House of Representatives. Every Democrat lived in mortal fear of voting against her. Democrats voted in lockstep to what she wanted or risked losing their committee positions. That is a FACT. Now the Senate Democrats have a dictator too – and his name is Chuck Schumer. He shut down the government in an attempt to hurt the economic recovery. Too bad it didn’t work!

Democrats love group think. It’s lazy and leads to autocracy. IBJ comment boards are full of people who applaud autocracy.

Republicans at least are not afraid of speaking their minds and voting for what they believe. We accept compromises to get to a consensus or majority opinion for approval. The fact that 14 Rs voted against redistricting is solid evidence of that.

    4. And Republicans have already said they’re primarying every single Republican who votes no on behalf of the big money donors who’ve got folks like you tied around their fingers. Got you angry, keep you angry, trick you into voting your future away.

Because it’s the fault of the Republicans that they can’t unveil that cheaper and better replacement for the Affordable Care Act they’ve been promising for 15 years. It’s the fault of Democrats, not tariffs, that everything costs more and the stock market is going to tank as soon as the AI bubble busts. It’s the Democrats fault that Republicans are both committing war crimes against drug smugglers while pardoning convicted drug kingpins.

Maybe you should be tipped off when they call you an “Indianan” and can’t get anyone to show up for their Statehouse rallies, much less get more than three legislators to speak in support.

  7. The problem, Matt Pierce of Bloomington, is that is has become an institution. Time to break that up and add new voices and perspectives for the middle of the state. I applaud the redistricting efforts!

    1. Rebecca, if that was the case, why didn’t legislators redraw their own districts?

Why did circumstances demand only one set of maps be redrawn and not all three?

  8. no longer Republicans, now Trumpians…..never thought Indiana folks would stoop to this. The voters are supposed to elect their representatives, not the other way around. Sad.

    1. Minnesota is awash with a multi billion dollar money fraudulent misuse of funds. Illinois is a pathetic joke with 5 of their last 9 governors going to prison…then there’s the greatest ‘empty suit’ disaster in the country presiding over California…..and the GOP is corrupt! 🤣

    2. Brad, some those Illinois governors that ended up in jail were…wait for it…Republicans!

  9. Let’s see now, would Indianapolis get more from DC with 4 GOP congressmen or 1 left wing ‘tenured’ Democrat? Secondly, and most importantly , the incumbent has show for years that he is only interested in assisting a minority of the populace…leaving the majority wishing for a real voice. We’ll soon see if the incumbent’s message of ‘Hoosier values’ can get him over the top.

    1. Indianapolis will get nothing. If Indianapolis was going to benefit from this move, Indiana Republicans would have voted no.

Because they’re the same Republicans that insist that IMPD can’t order problem bars to shut down, that’s the job for their cronies at the state ATC who keep them open.

The same Republicans that keep their road taxes low by stealing gas tax money from Marion County residents.

The same Republicans who gerrymandered the last map to keep Andre Carson around, as opposed to giving the Indianapolis area the three dedicated representatives it deserved. (Jefferson Shreve represents a third of Indianapolis and has been MIA ever since he bought the office.)

And the same Republicans who keep Marion County voters from having early voting compared to all the donut counties.

What evidence do you have that Indiana Republicans would suddenly care about Marion County now?

  10. This is all an attempt to keep a federal administration in place that rewards only loyalty and even those who are loyal, get kicked under the bus. Our tax dollars are bailing out investors in Argentina, instead of helping farmers weather the illegal tariffs and take away support for the working poor. Our state legislators are systematically underfunding our public schools and giving our tax money to higher wealth families for their private schools. Will these new maps help Indianapolis? Not one bit.

  11. This will backfire. If the IN Senate passes the redistricted maps, Illinois will follow suit with all Democratic districts…and their gain will be much bigger than IN’s.
