Useless government intervention. Waste of taxpayer money. Free market capitalism was eliminating demand for incandescent.
Meh I agree but this just speeds up the process. I haven’t purchased an incandescent bulb for at least 5 years, if not longer.
Free market capitalism doesn’t always benefit all stakeholders. In the case of incandescent light bulbs, they were cheap for consumers to buy but expensive to use. They required more energy to illuminate, which meant higher utility bills compared to florescent bulbs and light emitting diode lights.
In Indianapolis, the city was able to significantly increase the number of streetlights when it replaced the existing sodium streetlights several years ago with LED streetlights. The change-over was made possible at no additional cost because the operating cost was greatly reduced with the LED lights.
LED lighting products produce light up to 90% more efficiently than incandescent light bulbs. And they are 50% more efficient than traditional sodium streetlights, and can last 20-25 years. LED headlamps in automobiles last longer, which means expensive replacements are needed less often.
Such reductions in energy use means less money needs to be spent on growing the grid, and that means more money in your wallet.
