I spit my water out when I read this – campaign contributions “can do wonders, but not with me, and not with the Republican Party.”
we know Michael nothing Trump’s going to do is going to ever make you happy. he could demand and make all drugs free for all Americans and you would still complain about that.
Rhea, are you saying that you, ostensibly a conservative, are in favor of price controls? I’m personally in favor of lowering drug prices. Biden’s bipartisan Inflation Reduction Act was a great first step in allowing drug price negotiations in this country. That’s how government should work and if Trump actually cared about it, he would expand on it. Unfortunately, Trump is more interested in signing his name on pretty pieces of paper than making lasting change with actual policy substance. This EO literally does nothing and will be found to be unlawful in court, like the majority of his other EO’s. It will never not be hilarious that conservatives suddenly love socialism, though.
Michael we’re in my comments did I say anything about price controls? All Trump saying is if they can sell a drug for $1,600 in Australia then they can sell the exact same drug in the United States for 1600 instead of 16,000. But I guess you’re okay with paying high prices for medical care and exorbitant deductibles. Somebody needs to grab the bull by the horns and start doing something instead of talking about it.
Trump can sign all the executive orders he wants (so far he has signed 151), but none can force drug makers to lower the price of their medicines. And even if the MAGA congress passed a law and Trump signed it, that wouldn’t stand up in the courts either.
These stooges have no idea how drug pricing works. 🤦♂️
I suspect there will be a lot of lawsuits over this EO and if any of it sticks, probable ‘settlements’ or ‘contributions’ that will ‘exempt’ pharma companies out of this. This is a big money industry with the most financially corrupt president in US history. If this does functionally reduce medication prices, then I will hand it to them. But I doubt it.
Why should the American taxpayer and consumer continue to subsidize drug prices around the world? Example was a breast cancer drug that 1600 in Australia but they’re charged 16,000 here in the United states. All Trump is saying if they can sell it for that over there then they can sell it for that here. What’s wrong with that?
If the drug makers don’t like it then Medicare and Medicaid can find an alternative.
