It probably doesn’t concern the IBJ Boomers much bc they only participate in society in the ways they choose to and don’t have much time left here anyway, but it’s deeply concerning that 20-24 yr olds are leaving the job market completely
What is very interesting is there is no mention of female participation as their role has changed dramatically over the years. What percentage of the workforce is now female, what is the female participation and how has it changed along with participation by males? Also what is the reason for younger workers leaving or not entering the job market to begin with? Are they returning to school or their parent’s house?
I’m all for legal immigration so Congress needs to come to an agreement on a faster lower cost immigration law. I get that Reagan was the last to refine the law and we never secured our border. That’s the hold up. Secure the border and get a deal done.
What does “secure the border” even mean, though? Is it a literal wall? How many crossings are too many? If we are waiting for something so nebulous to take real action, we are never going to stop waiting.
I’m not sure this captures younger workers who are making money (and good money) online and via social media. Many of my kids friends in their 20’s are making six figure incomes that way.
I’m sure it’s difficult to accurately track them, but social media influencers do count towards labor participation rates for sure
