New governor takes aim at property taxes, utility rates and health care costs
Gov. Mike Braun became Indiana’s fourth consecutive Republican governor when he was sworn in on Jan. 13, following GOP Govs. Eric Holcomb, Mike Pence and Mitch Daniels. But Braun’s administration has had no interest in carrying the torch of his predecessors.
Since taking office, the new governor—a former state representative and U.S. senator—has made nuclear energy a priority, led a remake of the local tax system, dismantled the state’s DEI initiatives, threatened to intercede in public safety in Indianapolis, pushed to reduce the rates charged by investor-owned utilities and started selling off land the Holcomb team had acquired for economic development.
