The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said in a release Friday that 1,250 acres of the Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area will be used by the Indiana National Guard. The guard plans a $105 million expansion of Camp Atterbury in Johnson County.
The Indiana Department of Correction will give 1,990 acres of land to the DNR — compensation required by federal laws. The Putnam County land will become the Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife Area.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service will approve the exchange once all compliance documents have been received.
