  1. And in response to questions about public safety, Cook said the city has added two or three police officers each year to keep up with the city’s growth. For 2020, his administration has presented a budget that includes funding to hire 10 police officers, which will enable the department to increase patrols in the community and in the schools.

Those 2-3 officers were not in addition to the officers that we currently have, they were to replace officers that we lost to other departments and/or retired!
People are not against growth, but it needs to be responsible! We still have parks with no restroom facilities other than a Porto pot in the parking lot! And, where is the plan to pay back the millions they loaned for Grand Park from the sale of our water utility?

    1. I moved to Westfield 3 years ago. I purchased a home in one of four communities in Springmill Trails off of Ditch/Casey Rd. These four different communities lied for 5 years to sell hundreds of homes on future imenities that had no land earmarked.

For example four subdivisions telling their clients “we will have a pool”, then later saying “we’ll our communities of four subs will share a pool” to later saying, well we actually didn’t set aside any land to build a pool. This is a fact. None of these four sub divisions set aside room for a community center. It was all a lie, but Westfield still let’s these builders continue to build more subs.

Where is the oversight from Westfield to prevent home buyers from being duped? Now council meetings are being had that two or three or more communities will “join” Springmill Trails and one of these new communities “should” handle to pool. Seriously? If it ever happens you will have thousands sharing a pool that won’t be able to handle the capicity or even parking. It’s going to be a dangerous walk for most and fruitless drive for the rest to just find there isn’t parking.

Westfield has heard the complaints from home owners but treat our anger as a minor issue. It clearly speaks to not planning “responsible” growth. And don’t get me started on school bus problems. Or the fact you ripped up and destroyed sub division street frontage AFTER everyone moved in to upgrade the sewer lines because you couldn’t upgrade one block until you had tax dollars coming in. Couldn’t do it while it was just dirt, but instead rip up established trees and replace with yearling and quality sod replaced with rocky dirt and contractor seed.

Another thing, stop allowing builders to strip top soil and leave home owners with hardpan to try to establish lawns. Even sod won’t survive dropped on soil you cannot put a screw driver through. Once homeowners realize a nice yard is nearly impossible they just let it go and it will affect home values.

Through permits and granting licenses to build you can have oversight a.k.a. “consumer protection”. I regretfully tell my friends to try to buy in Carmel these days and to avoid building here.

  2. Scott B. Perhaps people should read documents before they purchase property. If they don’t have the expertise, their real estate agent should and/or get a lawyer to review what covenants, conditions and restrictions you are agreeing to. If something like a community center and/or pool was a high priority for the buyer, then they should read the documents and ensure it’s an actual planned and funded build. There should have been a full site plan for every development showing where the amenity areas would be located and what those amenities would include. If not, one should assume it’ll never be built, as it sounds like is the case. This isn’t a failure of the city, it’s a failure of buyers and a failure of real estate agents to properly inform said buyers.
