Indiana reports highest number of new deaths since June 6

The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 850 new COVID-19 cases and 28 new deaths.

The number of deaths was the largest reported by the health department in a daily report since June 6, when 32 new deaths were reported. The daily number of new deaths includes deaths that have occurred over a range of days but were reported for the first time over the 24-hour period ending at 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

The department reported the testing of 12,106 new individuals, the first time testing has exceeded 12,000 since Aug. 9.

The state’s 7-day testing-positivity rate rose from 7.9% on Monday to 8.2% on Tuesday, while the overall testing-positivity rate dipped to 8.8% after the department added more than 2,000 previously excluded tested individuals.

Marion County reported an increase of 163 cases, the 32nd time in 33 days that the county has seen more than 100 daily cases. The county’s 7-day testing-positivity rate was 7.5%%.

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
