State health department reports all-time highs in new cases, testing

The Indiana State Department of Health on Friday reported 1,282 new COVID-19 cases and the testing of 19,081 new individuals—both all-time high numbers for the department’s daily report.

The numbers, however, were boosted by the addition of 279 cases dating from Aug. 28 to Sept. 10 and 9,434 tested individuals dating from June 29 to Sept. 10 from an additional facility that has been newly onboarded into the health department’s electronic reporting system.

The state also reported 10 more deaths, raising the cumulative total to 3,196.

The state’s cumulative testing-positivity rate for unique individuals dropped from 8.8% to 8.7%.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

COVID-19 cases

*New cases: 1,282**

Total cumulative cases reported Thursday: 102,243

Increase in cumulative cases: 1,262

Increase in cases reported Aug. 1-Sept. 1: 27,769

Available ICU beds: 37.4%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 9.8%

Available ventilators: 81.3%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2.3%

As of Friday, from Johns Hopkins University:

U.S. cases: 6,401,371

U.S. deaths: 191,842

Global cases: 28,219,714

Global deaths: 910,460

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.

    Available ICU beds: 37.4%
    ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 9.8%

    I’m sure we have some other affliction consuming a higher percentage of ICU beds and ventilators… but we are too far committed to this “pandemic” financially and economically to accept that it is not public enemy #1… LET IT GO ALREADY!!
