I take offense at Curt Smith’s insertion of religion into any discussion having to do with our government. [We are not electing a pastor, but a president, Forefront, Oct. 9]. I will be happy to send you a copy of the Constitution, which specifically deals with this issue, in case you do not have one at your disposal.

It is Mitch McConnell, the enabler of Donald Trump, who has made it his mission in life to neglect most other issues in order to fill the courts with social conservatives. When it comes to getting his way, he has nothing in the way of personal ethics. The exercise of raw power that he used in denying even a hearing for Judge Merrick B. Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court, and now totally ignoring the logic he used for that denial in the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, is appalling and disgraceful. I can just imagine how Smith would have reacted if the situation had been reversed and a Democratic majority leader had denied a Republican nominee to the Supreme Court a hearing in 2016, and then tried to ram through the nominee of a Democratic president in 2020.
