According to Dr. Allon Friedman [Consider comparative risks to truly understand COVID-19, Sept. 18], “the likelihood of dying from COVID in Indiana is a 1.7-in-a-million chance.” The doctor did not provide the details of his calculation of those odds. It should be immediately apparent that his statement has no merit. The population of Indiana is less than 7 million. If the doctor’s number was correct, COVID would claim only 12 lives. It surpassed that number months before the doctor’s column was written. A correction is needed that warns your readers that the column was grossly inaccurate and misleading and should not be trusted.
