Indiana reports 7,344 new COVID-19 cases, another 81 deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 7,344 new cases of COVID-19, the largest number of cases since Dec. 12.

The department also reported 81 more deaths due to COVID-19. Deaths have exceeded 25 in the report for 36 straight days.

The state said 16,609 new individuals were tested, the highest number since Dec. 20..

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 2,782 on Tuesday to 2,812 on Wednesday. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.

The department said 128,026 people in the state have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 585 have been fully vaccinated, as of Tuesday.

COVID-19 patients occupy 27.5% of the state’s intensive care beds.

The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals is 27.8%.
