I agree with the headline for Riley Parr’s Forefront column on Jan. 15 that read, “Republicans must present ideas in next four years.” However, I don’t agree with his comment that “it is the height of hypocrisy for those on the left to (rightfully) decry the absurdity that took place at the Capitol on Jan. 6 when they turned a blind eye six months ago when cities burned.”

Parr does not seem to recognize that responsible parties on all sides condemned the violence, if not the reasons for the violence, last summer in several cities. To equate the violence six months ago with insurrectionists trying to invade the Capitol while injuring police, being a party to five deaths, and threatening legislators is an astonishing wrong comparison by Parr and one that others have wrongly used to “justify” the invasion of the Capitol in some way.

  1. It was very convenient for government officials in various cities across the country to look the other way at the summer riots because they were so closely tied to the BLM movement, and not wanting to upset their black constituents, especially in an election year!
