Indiana COVID-19 cases hit lowest mark since Sept. 29

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 817 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest number of cases in the daily report since Sept. 29. Monday’s number marks the first time daily cases have fallen below 1,000 since Oct. 6.

The state also reported 19 new deaths due to the coronavirus. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 126 of the past 127 days.

The department said 4,484 new individuals were tested Sunday.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 1,031 on Saturday to 1,066 on Sunday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 336,800 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m. More than 816,750 had received the first dose of a vaccination.

School data

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported the latest figures related to schools. The results are updated weekly. The latest report covered the week ended Feb. 12.

The latest figures showed a rise in student COVID-19 cases of 819, an increase of 136 teacher cases and 155 more staff cases.

Cumulative case counts since the beginning of the school years rose to 27,400 students, 5,490 teachers and 6,468 staff members.

The state said 1,920 schools have reported one or more cases, while 158 have seen no cases. Another 290 schools have not reported data to the state.
