The state said hospitalizations jumped from to 852 on Saturday to 902 on Sunday. That’s the first time since May 9 that hospitalizations have topped 900, when they hit 912. The all-time high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The department also reported 616 new COVID-19 cases, snapping a four-day streak of daily reports with more than 1,000 new cases. However, the case count was the highest number contained in a Monday report since May 3, when 812 new cases were reported.
The cumulative number of cases in Indiana increased by 2,798 over Friday’s report, to 774,097. (The state no longer issues COVID-19 reports on Saturday and Sunday).
The seven-day moving average of positive cases in Indiana increased from 1,099 on Saturday to 1,118 on Sunday—its highest mark since May 7.
The state reported no new deaths from COVID-19, but the cumulative death total rose by seven over the weekend, to 13,583. The seven-day moving average of new deaths is three.
The department reported the testing of 2,348 new individuals.
The state said more than 2.95 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m. More than 2.94 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
