Indiana reports 31 more COVID-19 deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 31 more deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 14,581. The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose from 26 to 27 per day, the health department said.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped from 2,527 on Tuesday to 2,524 on Wednesday. The peak was Nov. 30, when 3,460 were hospitalized.

More than a third (34%) of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

The state reported 4,157 cases of COVID-19, down from 4,733 cases in Wednesday’s report.

More than 3.18 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Thursday at 5 a.m., up by 7,774 from the previous day.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

  1. A relative has had trouble getting in for a normal outpatient diagnostic procedure because the health care system is (1) clogged up with unvaccinated Covid patients, and (2) because nurses and doctors are burned out by this wave of mostly preventable disease.

    And despite being healthy I don’t really want to die of something treatable (car accident) because I can’t get into an ER or hospital bed.

    Just get vaccinated. Before hospitals start rationing care and putting unvaxed Covid patients at the bottom of the priority list.
