The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 1,822 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the pandemic total in the state to 972,067 cases.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 1,883 on Saturday to 1,861 on Sunday, the department said. That’s the lowest number since Aug. 22. About 24% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients. Cases have been slowly falling since reaching a recent peak of 2,687 on Sept. 13.

The department reported no new deaths from COVID, but that number consists of deaths reported on Sunday only. The cumulative number of deaths since Friday rose by 80, to 15,273.

The seven-day moving average of new deaths was 18 per day, the health department said.

More than 3.28 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m., after a weekend increase of 17,710. Department statistics say 59.8% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.
