Stop trying to stop height!!! This is the state capitol!!! It’s supposed to be high rises all over the whole county!!!!!
I love Micahs comments. They are humorous though true.
It’s the standard 5 over 1 design and they are and will continue to be developed across the United States. We need affordable housing and this is the answer. Yes it’s “boring” in some places, yes Indy builds a lot of them, but it’s a cost effective design made of wood, not steel so it saves tons of money. I agree with Micah. We shouldn’t be building anything smaller in the downtown area. Single family homes are great but we have a housing shortage going on!
The five-over-one design is an affordable answer to current building codes, which allow a five-story structure to be built with wood framing. As long as the ground-level floor is made of concrete or fire-proofed steel, developers can erect a five-story structure made of wood on top of that podium. To erect anything taller would hike the costs significantly, resulting in much higher rents and less affordable housing for the average Indianapolis resident.
