He shouldn’t do it. The GOP’s insanity has evolved well beyond him.
It seems that Rokita is eyeing the Governor’s office. Mitch is certainly much better than that clown.
100%. Even as a Democrat, I’d give $$ to Mitch in the primary over Rokita.
Mitch is far and away the best person for that job in 2024. Neither party has anyone else with the chops for the job. (Rokita? Hill? Gimme a break.)
Mitch is brilliant! Yes please! He should have been President of the United States, not Donald Trump.
If anybody can do it, Mitch can “fix” the Indiana Republican Party. He’s pledged to stay apolitical as the head of Purdue, but based on interviews I’ve heard from him, the recent Republican populist movement is not his cup of tea. WAY better than Rokita and his immediate predecessor in Pence. And certainly better than Holcomb as well.
I’d prefer Mitch over any of the other mooted candidates but the Republican Party of 2022 isn’t the same that it was 20 years ago. If the 2004 primary was run again in today’s climate, Eric Miller doesn’t lose 66% to 33%. Heck, I think he’d win.
Look at the Secretary of State race. The actual serving officeholder was tossed out by Republican delegates for someone who got fired from that same office for incompetence… TWICE … but hey, he tells us the election lies they want to hear. They want someone like that to run Indiana’s elections.
In conclusion, Robert, I don’t think the Republican Party is fixable from within. Mitch Daniels is just another RINO to today’s Republican base voter. His “pause” on social issues would go absolutely nowhere and would be a liability in a primary. Even if he won election, he’s not going to have any more influence over an out-of-control party than Eric Holcomb did.
Mitch is the last of the reasonable Republicans who know where the middle of the road is.
Please please Mitch run for President we need some sanity in Washington
My Man Mitch!!
We could use him in Indianapolis as Mayor, but that might be too much of a step down and vortex to overcome.
Given there is a 2 year residency requirement and Mitch Daniels hasn’t lived in Indianapolis in decades (even when he was Governor he lived in Hamilton County), pretty sure he wouldn’t be eligible. Besides, he couldn’t win a mayoral election in Indianapolis. No Republican could.
