Subscribe NowIndustrial packaging and engineering firm Deufol Sunman Inc. plans to permanently lay off nearly 250 employees at its Ripley County facility next month, according to a notice filed with the Indiana Workforce Development.
Packers, equipment operators, quality assurance technicians—and a host of other jobs held by 243 people—will be eliminated by the company by Sept. 30, according to a July 31 notice of mass layoff sent to the DWD by the firm’s human resources manager.
“The planned layoff at the facility is permanent in nature,” according to the notice. “The entire facility is not being closed. We expect that the job eliminations resulting from the mass layoff will begin on or about Sept. 30, 2017."
The employees are not represented by a union.
The town of Sunman, about 75 miles southeast of Indianapolis, off Interstate 74, has a population of about 1,000.
A Deufol Sunman representative did not immediately reply to IBJ’s request for comment.
