hupfer-kyle-viewpointThis year, the Indiana Republican Party embarked on what we called the “Right Track Results Tour.” In 28 counties across the state, this tour delivered a simple message: Hoosier Republicans—from the courthouse, to the Statehouse and all the way to the White House—are keeping Indiana on the right track and putting America back on the right track. And the proof is in the results.

Here in Indiana, thanks to a decade-plus of strong Republican leadership from Mitch Daniels, now president of Purdue University; Mike Pence, now our nation’s vice president; Eric Holcomb, our current governor; and our supermajorities in the Statehouse, Indiana has seen unprecedented growth and opportunity. Unemployment is low, reserves are strong, and we have the nation’s only fully funded, 20-year infrastructure plan. The accomplishments simply go on and on.

We’re seeing a similar story play out in Washington as the policies of President Donald Trump and Pence are now delivering positive results for all Americans. It’s the Indiana model taken to the nation.

Just take the recent tax-reform debate. Under Trump’s leadership, our nation passed the most comprehensive tax-reform package in 31 years, reducing the average Hoosier’s federal tax burden by $2,000 a year. U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi might think that’s just crumbs (it probably is for someone who lives in a high-tax, high-cost-of-living state like California), but that’s real money to millions of Hoosiers.

Republican leadership is also slashing regulations, making it easier for businesses small, medium and large to launch operations, expand their footprint, and invest in their people. Without the government breathing down the neck of every entrepreneur and job creator, these American businesses can focus on their customers and their employees, rather than complying with burdensome federal dictates.

As the federal government retreats and unleashes the power of American innovation, our economic growth is breaking records. I can remember back when all the pundits and prognosticators ridiculed then-candidate Trump when he audaciously set a goal of 4 percent growth in our gross domestic product.

And now, here we are, experiencing exactly that type of robust economic growth. As a result, nationwide unemployment for all Americans is at a low not seen since 1969. And those numbers cut across demographic groups. For instance, blacks and Latinos are experiencing unemployment at all-time lows.

The success on the national level isn’t relegated to just the economy. Republican leadership has made it a top priority to confirm to the federal bench—from circuit courts to the Supreme Court—jurists who believe in following laws, not making laws. The American people said they were done with activist liberal judges when they elected Trump as our president, and he’s delivering on his promise to nominate only the most qualified and prepared jurists to serve in the judicial branch.

With results like these, why would we turn back now? It took us suffering through 16 years of failed Democratic leadership in Indiana to change our ways and get back on the right track. Similarly, it took our nation eight years of hardship under the failed liberal policies of President Barack Obama to finally snap out of it and put our country back on the right track. Let’s stay the course.•
