Mayor Hogsett teams with Pacers Oladipo to promote cleaner city

New Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo has teamed up with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett for a public service announcement released Thursday.

In the "It’s My City" PSA, the two have joined forces to inspire residents to help create a cleaner, greener city by re-enacting the iconic “Hudnut Hook,” a PSA that featured former Mayor Bill Hudnut “putting litter in its place.”

Playing off Oladipo’s signature line, the two proclaim “this is our city,” and call on residents to get involved in shaping a more beautiful Indianapolis.

This year, the city said it is making “significant investments” to better city neighborhoods. Indy Parks and Rec will plant 1,500 trees in city-managed parks and greenways. The Department of Business and Neighborhood Services will continue trash sweeps, in addition to ramping up targeted outreach and education in areas of the city most plagued by litter and illegal dumping. And the Department of Public Works will continue to provide resources that support neighborhood clean-up efforts, including Keep Indianapolis Beautiful's Great Indy Cleanups that will begin in April.

The three-year It’s My City campaign is targeted toward business owners, individuals and neighborhoods and schools—providing education, access to resources and simple steps that each entity can take to improve the city.

Oladipo, a product of Indiana University, arrived in Indianapolis last year via a trade the Pacers made with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He’s quickly become a fan favorite and is averaging 23.4 points per game, 12th best in the NBA.
