At the [Feb. 18] IBJ Power Breakfast “Going Green,” members of the panel mentioned the uncertainty in
Washington, D.C.
Each day, it seems, something new is said by the Obama administration on how best to curb greenhouse gases, whether that
be through a harmful “cap and trade” program or, even worse, stifling Environmental Protection Agency regulation.
Businesses are also worried about the uncertain tax climate. President Obama included numerous tax increases in his recent
budget proposal. A huge tax increase is included for domestic oil and gas production. Raising taxes hurts those who can least
afford it. The vast majority of America’s oil and natural gas is produced by small, independent operators—not
big, global corporations.
