Police units disbanded, officers reassigned

August 4, 2010

Six specialized Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigative units are being disbanded. The 65 detectives who work in those divisions are being reassigned to work at the district level. Vehicle theft, aggravated assault, robbery, organized crime, financial crime and juvenile units are being decentralized. Public Safety Director Dr. Frank Straub said the community is best-served by detectives with a wide range of investigative experience stationed at the community level. The police union disagrees  with the decision.
