Menard teams up with Penske as sponsor for Indy 500

Roger Penske is bringing former IndyCar owner John Menard back to the series as a team sponsor.

On Tuesday, Team Penske announced Menards, a Midwestern home improvement chain, will appear on Simon Pagenaud's No. 22 car for May's Indianapolis 500 and the race at Road America in June.

The Wisconsin-based company will remain an associate sponsor on Pagenaud's car for the rest of the season.

As an owner, Menard claimed his first IndyCar title in 1997 with Tony Stewart. Two years later, Greg Ray gave him a second title.

Menard also won two Indy poles — in 1995 with the late Scott Brayton and the following year with Stewart.

The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 29.
