The chairwoman of the Marion County Republican Party has stepped down amid new Indianapolis ethics rules that prohibit certain political leaders from doing business with the city.
The Indianapolis Star reported that GOP Chairwoman Jennifer Ping resigned Friday.
She cited an ethics ordinance approved by the City-County Council in April that disallows anyone with "appointing authority" to city and county boards from doing business with the city.
Piing is a principal at Bose Public Affairs Group, a government affairs and consulting group that has contracts with the city of Indianapolis and represents clients who lobby city leaders.
Marion County Democratic Chairman Joel Miller says he's terminated a contract with a client to keep his political job.
The political party chairs appoint members of the county voter registration board.
