Torchlite, a gig economy startup for freelance marketers, announced Thursday that it has raised $2 million and added two technology executives to its board.
The Indianapolis-based company added former Salesforce Marketing Cloud CEO Scott McCorkle as its executive chairman and Jeffrey K. Rohrs, CMO of New York City-based Yext, as a board director. The $2 million round brings the company's total financing take to $4 million since its launch in June 2015.
Torchlite sells software that allows companies to access Torchilte's pool of freelance marketing experts—called Torchliters—on demand. The company said it has grown revenue more than threefold over the past 12 months and has more than 250 freelancers in its network.
"I speak with marketing executives every day, and there is a strong common theme. Companies need help accelerating their marketing plans to action," McCorkle said in prepared remarks. "Help means technology to identify marketing objectives and then help managing marketing campaigns and deliverables to completion. And help means finding experts to do the work."
Torchlite said McCorkle will be actively involved in its operations, "providing expert direction on go-to-market strategies and contributing to the development of the product and technology."
Rohrs will leverage his marketing experience "to help guide the company's approach and vision to empowering marketers," the company said.
Torchlite's CEO is Susan Marshall, an alumna of Apple Inc. and Salesforce.com Inc. Last summer, the company said it would add 140 Indiana jobs (to the 16 it had at the time) by the end of 2019.
The firm currently has 25 employees. Its headquarters is at 342 Massachusetts Ave.
