Subscribe NowThe Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana is set to return to its headquarters in downtown Indianapolis tomorrow, six months after a fire at a neighboring apartment project displaced the not-for-profit.
The March 12 blaze at the Cosmopolitan on the Canal project spread to the roof of the foundation’s building at 340 W. Michigan St., causing about $1 million in damage to the north wing. The wing was added in 1990 to a historic 1879 structure known as the Kuhn House.
The fire displaced 16 employees, who have worked for the past six months in office space at 320 N. Meridian St. Movers are expected to arrive mid-morning tomorrow to deliver furnishings, documents and office equipment stored at the foundation’s temporary home.
Its permanent structure near the Central Canal now features a new copper roof, new interior decor and a mix of new and refurbished furnishings.
Historic Landmarks, an organization dedicated to saving historic structures across Indiana, will reopen Monday.
The $33 million Cosmopolitan was destroyed by the fire, which was ruled an arson. The apartments have since been nearly rebuilt by developer Flaherty & Collins Properties and are expected to open early next year.
