Indiana State to eliminate about 64 programs

Too many academic programs with too few students are diluting Indiana State University resources, its trustees believe. So, the board is following through on a plan to cut the number of programs to about 150 from the current 214, according to The Tribune-Star of Terre Haute.

A review found that half of the programs attract 90 percent of the students, and fewer than 10 students were enrolled in each of more than 400 undergraduate courses.

Examples of programs slated for elimination are two graduate tracks in the College of Nursing and eliminating a major in the College of Education.

In the College of Business, reviews are pending on the MBA curriculum and delivery as well as an information technology program offered jointly through several departments.
