Folk-rock band America and emerging country singer Max McNown will perform at this year’s Indiana State Fair.

Four concerts were announced Wednesday by fair organizers, including a double bill featuring country acts Phil Vassar and Lonestar plus Mexico-based Banda Troyana topping a “Latin Day” lineup.

The shows join a Hoosier Lottery Free Stage series that includes previously announced performances by Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Melissa Etheridge and Bill Murray and his Blood Brothers.

America, known for 1970s hits such as “A Horse with No Name” and “Ventura Highway,” features one original member in its touring lineup. Vocalist-guitarist Dewey Bunnell will perform at the fair. Vocalist-guitarist Gerry Buckley retired from touring in 2024.

McNown landed his 2023 song “A Lot More Than Free” in the Top 30 of four Billboard magazine charts: country songs, rock & alternative songs, pop airplay and adult pop airplay.

This year’s Indiana State Fair is scheduled Aug. 1-17, with no activity on Mondays during that time at the Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St.

The Free Stage shows:

  • Aug. 1: Three Dog Night
  • Aug. 2: “Disney Throwback DJ Night”
  • Aug. 3: Max McNown
  • Aug. 6: Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds
  • Aug. 7: America
  • Aug. 8: Bill Murray and his Blood Brothers
  • Aug. 12: “Latin Day” featuring Banda Troyana
  • Aug. 14: Phil Vassar, Lonestar
  • Aug. 15: Melissa Etheridge

Additional Free Stage concerts will be announced.

Admission to the Free Stage near the northwest corner of the Fairgrounds is included with tickets purchased for the fair. Advance fair tickets are available for $14. Fair admission is free to attendees 5 and younger. For more information, visit indianastatefair.com.

A limited number of reserved viewing area tickets are available for purchase.

The fair’s 2025 theme, “Soundtrack of Summer,” is presented by Get Prepared Indiana—an awareness campaign launched by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. The campaign focuses on emergencies such as severe weather and fires.
