  1. Where have their parents been during childhood and growing up. Have they not seen examples of responsible work etiquette and practices? I think this whole thing is being way over blown. My kids are all in this category and all work their tails off. SMH.

  2. GAH!! At some point they have to learn that you either step up and take on whatever the challenge is, or you give up one thing and focus on the other. If they need to focus on their mental health, that is OK. Do it! Every generation has had their challenges. And the lack of in-person communication during COVID definitely had an impact on everyone. This generation needs to assess their needs and figure out how they can overcome. But it isn’t an employer’s job to coddle them.

    1. Being an ineffective manager isn’t a good excuse to ask them to cover for your mistakes. Plan better.

Strange that the generation yakking about “work-life balance” are the folks who expect others to be available at all hours, working, while us aging Boomers have mastered the skills required to get our work done during the workday and workweek (and have some hard boundaries around personal time).

    Sorry, kids, don’t email/call/text me at 5pm on Friday expecting a response before Monday morning. I’m not available.

  4. The comments above reflect the exact generational gap the article is talking about. The older you are the less you are able to accept change and evolution. Everything has to be done the way you had to do it. I remember showing my 70 yr old father my work laptop in the earrly 90’s and he couldnt understand why it was necessary and why when he called me at work he had to talk to voicemail instead of a secretary. To him my generation was lazy.

  5. The kids are alright.
    If you can’t set reasonable expectations for when your employees are available, then you aren’t management material and should hang it up.
