Nearly all had dogs.” – I feel for the people interviewed but children cost money and dogs are a LUXURY. They’re also in Austin. No explanation needed. What sacrifices are these people willing to make to become homeowners?… My first house was god awful and styled from the 70’s. It came complete with a leaking roof, nasty carpet, mold, and not in the best location yet it qualified for a conventional loan.

Yes. Make big unpopular sacrifices or do nothing and rent. It’s all about the mindset, saving, and knocking out small goals.
Continued: There’s nothing wrong with renting. Unless you know the market, prices, and have stable income buying a house makes no sense. Some of the people interviewed “were recently married”, aka a terrible time to buy a house. The standard path to home ownership is overrated.
$4,000.00 a month? Heck, I wouldn’t be able to afford that, and I’m an empty nester! They’re looking in the wrong areas for affordable homes.
