Indiana reports 37 new COVID-19 deaths, uptick in cases

The Indiana State Department of Health on Friday reported 37 more COVID-19 deaths in the state, raising the total to 16,336.

The seven-day moving average of deaths rose from 15 to 16.

The department reported 2,358 more cases of COVID-19, up from 2,065 cases the previous day.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 1,312 on Wednesday to 1,269 on Thursday. COVID patients occupy 14.9% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds.

Vaccination information from the state had not been updated as early afternoon Friday. More than 3.37 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Thursday at 5 a.m. after a daily increase of more than 1,900. More than 445,000 Hoosiers have already gotten vaccine boosters.

The health department said 59.7% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.
