Indiana reports first increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in five days

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported an increase in statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19, ending a five-day streak of declining numbers

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 1,707 on Saturday to 1,746 on Sunday. More than 22% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients. Hospitalizations reached a recent peak of 2,687 on Sept. 13.

The department reported 1,114 new cases of COVID-19, raising the pandemic total in the state to 987,164 cases. The cumulative total of cases rose by 4,720 over the weekend.

The department reported just one new death from COVID, but the cumulative total of deaths rose by 73 over the weekend, to 15,542.

The seven-day moving average of new deaths was at 16 per day, the health department said.

More than 3.3 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m., after a weekend increase of 9,560. Department statistics show 60.3% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.

  1. It was probably DeSantis’s fault, or maybe that one guy who falsely claim he had a medical exemption to wear a mask on school property, or those dirty unvaxxed, or someone forgot to set their altar to St. Fraudxi the correct direction.
