Mellencamp is a chump child.
Critics don’t agree but I actually like his first two albums (John Cougar and Nothing Matters…)the best, when his songwriting wasn’t as political….I need a Lover, Miami, Ain’t even done with the night, Tonight, etc.
Agree with Bob, Nothing Matters is great. Mellencamp “ burnished” his rep a long time ago all by himself. Every interview or contact in the last 20 years just reveals a miserable person. He used the system to live a life of royalty, but everything sucks, the US sucks, everyone sucks except me, until it’s time to go on tour and change $200 for nose bleeds, then Capitalism Good!! Just go away.
My husband’s issue with John’s concerts is that he starts a song and then the audience sings it for him. He says he doesn’t come to hear the audience sing instead of the artist. And I get it, I’m one of the singers, I love his music (especially the early stuff) but hate that he has to bring politics into everything he does. I don’t need him to preach liberalism to me, I get it elsewhere, I’m just here for entertainment.
Folks, It’s not like Mellencamp hides his political views. You know going in what you’re going to get, so why complain about his content? Nobody forces you to buy a ticket, or two or three.
The irony is, John has become what he sang against as small town rebel and farm aid founder. Most farmers are not leftest liberals, neither are most midwestern small town folks. Neil has totally sold out to the liberal left, Willie kept true to his roots and beliefs, John followed the arbitrary anti-Trump hipness seemingly to appease NY and CA crowd.
Personally Mellencamp is a hypocrite to what he sings about. The farming community is mostly freedom loving Patriots that wish the government would get out of there lives.
Does that include the multiple billions in farm subsides, too?
