  1. He is a complete idiot that needs to get out of politics. He’s essentially ruined the cleanliness of downtown and made the entire city feel unsafe ever since he was elected.

    1. Hogsett might be terrible. Marion County Republicans aren’t offering a better choice.

Hogsett was elected in 2015. By 2019, a more experienced Republican politician – who could point to Hogsett’s numerous flaws – did so badly in the mayor’s race that he doomed Republicans in numerous City County Council races … races Republicans lost using a map that they themselves had drawn. The sandwich shop owner who ran in 2015 did better.

How, exactly, is the Marion County GOP going to find anyone to take a year of their life to run for mayor when they’re wanting the candidate themselves to pay for the privilege (as per recent reporting in the IBJ)?

I think Republicans can win the mayor’s office. But they need to make a case for both WHAT they are going to do and HOW they’re going to do it, and it needs to be something that resonates with Marion County Republicans.

Cyndi Carrasco’s pitch appeared to be “I’m not Ryan Mears”. That ain’t going to fly any longer. Might have worked a while ago, but it no longer works.

If you’re going to run on crime, explain what you’re going to do besides just lock everyone up for everything and throw away all the keys. If you’re going to fix poverty, explain what you’re going to do other than privatize city infrastructure to fund some program, losing a permanent asset for a temporary band aid. If you’re going to fix the roads, explain where you’re going to get the half-billion a year you need to fix those roads out of your fellow Statehouse Republicans just a few blocks west down Market Street. Explain how you’re going to accomplish what Speedy/Young/Sandlin/Freeman aren’t able to do.

Or, just sit there, run on the “I’m not Joe Hogsett” platform, lose by 20 points, and blame the voters, like the Indiana Democratic Party did after losing to the most inept candidate in some time, Diego Morales.

    2. I agree with everything you said Joe B., except that it’s not that Speedy/Young/Sandlin/Freeman can’t, they just won’t. They’re too busy taking away women’s rights and destroying the environment along with their rural brethren rather than actually addressing road funding and crime for urban areas.

  2. Of course he is. He has spent most of his career on the taxpayer teat and the Mears voters will renew him. Why would he do anything else. It’s a great time to be a Democrat

    1. No republican will run.

Thus – no Republican can win.

Weird way to project to say it’s a good time to be one party when there’s no competition…

  3. Be prepared for the streets to continue to degrade, a once clean city continues to become dirtier, and crime to become more of an issue. Maybe we will get more buses that no one rides and bike lanes that no one uses. Maybe he can bring back the Hudnut Hook.

  4. No question that he has been a complete failure. Much like Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Memphis, Cincinatti, Etc., Etc., Etc. Minority dominated cities have been sold a bill of goods but accept the line they have to vote as a block because they belong to a certain race or lifestyle. There is however hope if one looks to the Hispanic communities who are tired of being treated as pawns to the political stooges and want to improve their families’ conditions. Nobody NOBODY can look at Indianapolis and say it has gotten better under this administration. Drink up Joe. You have earned it. I guess.

  5. Record high crime, record high murder, record high taxes, cash free bail, record low student performance, what a horrible mayor.
I am not sure who is more stupid, the mayor or the morons who vote for him.
