Multiple retailers, restaurants and other businesses and organizations recently opened or began planning new locations in the north suburbs of Indianapolis. Here’s a rundown:

The Back Nine Golf Carmel

An indoor golf simulator and entertainment venue will open this month at Carmel City Center.

The Back Nine Golf Carmel will feature three golf simulator bays and event space for corporate events, private parties and social gatherings when it opens May 17 at 800 S. Rangeline Road, Suite 100.

St. George, Utah-based The Back Nine Golf was established in 2021, and it has 73 locations open or under development in 24 states. The 2,759-square-foot Carmel location will be The Back Nine Golf’s first space in Indiana.

“I love the Carmel City Center as a location for The Back Nine Golf,” owner Coleman Gerstner said in written remarks. “The central Carmel location makes us a short drive for most Carmel residents, and there is a strong selection of shops and experiences already available at CCC—including excellent restaurants, retail shops, and health and fitness-focused businesses.”

The facility will offer space for four players at a time at the golf simulators, which will be manufactured by San Diego-based Full Swing Golf. The simulators will offer 45 golf courses from around the world and courses from Tomorrow’s Golf League.

Tomorrow’s Golf League, founded by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy and former NBC golf executive Mike McCarley, is a 3-on-3 league that takes place in a custom-built venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

A grand opening event is scheduled for May 17 that will feature food, games, prizes and an appearance by Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Blake Freeland.

The Back Nine Golf Carmel will be open 24 hours, seven days a week. The business will offer annual and monthly memberships, and corporate packages. Members will be able to participate in tournaments and league play. There will be public tee times available from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday that can be booked online.

The Farm

Businesses are expected to begin opening this summer at The Farm, a 48-acre residential and retail project being developed by Zionsville-based Pittman Partners at the southwest corner of the intersection of Michigan Road and Sycamore Street in Zionsville.

Shake Shack, Stock Yards Bank & Trust, Rise’n Roll Bakery, Niku Sushi.Kitchen.Bar, Piada Italian Street Food, Niku Sushi, Prime IV Hydration & Wellness, West Coast Sourdough and Hollywood Nail Lounge are tenants that will open at The Farm.

A three-building 400-unit multifamily complex called The Sylo Apartments opened in April at The Farm. Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties is working with Pittman Partners to develop the apartments.

Pittman Partners is planning for the second phase of The Farm, which could have up to 225,000 square feet of commercial space on the property’s remaining 23 acres. The second phase is estimated to cost $49.9 million, according to documents submitted with the town of Zionsville. The initial part of the second phase is expected to be completed in summer 2025, while the rest of the second phase should be completed by early 2027.

Companies working on The Farm include Indianapolis-based architecture firm Delv Design; Indianapolis-based engineering firms American Structurepoint, Circle Design Group, and Lynch Harrison & Brumleve Inc.; Indianapolis-based landscape architecture firm Context Design; Florida-based consulting firm InfiniSys Electronic Architects; Floyds Knobs-based leasing firm 7D Commercial Real Estate; and Minneapolis-based architecture firm BKV Group.

Brooklyn Char Pizza

Brooklyn Char Pizza, which serves New York-style pizza, opened in March at 14765 Hazel Dell Crossing in Noblesville.

The restaurant previously operated on Rucker Road, north of East 62nd Street and just west of Binford Boulevard.

Brooklyn Char is open 3-9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Gabels Bagels

Bloomington-based Gabels Bagels plans to open a shop this summer at 270 S. Main St. in Zionsville.

Ed Schwartzman opened the first Gabels Bagels location in 2020 in Bloomington. The restaurant offers bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and sides.

Last month, members of the Zionsville Plan Commission unanimously approved a development plan to allow Gabels Bagels to modify its 1,560-square-foot building to allow a restaurant with outdoor seating.

Wawa

Pennsylvania-based Wawa Inc. is set to open a convenience store and gas station May 22 at 5890 Midland Pointe Blvd. on the west side of Noblesville. It will be the chain’s first store in the Indianapolis area.

The store is in the 34-acre Midland Pointe development at the southeast corner of State Road 32 and Hazel Dell Parkway. Midland Pointe is a joint venture between Indianapolis-based Secure Holdings LLC and Carmel-based Old Town Cos. LLC.

Wawa has more than 1,100 stores across nine states and Washington, D.C. The retail convenience stores offer built-to-order food such as hoagies and breakfast sandwiches, beverages, coffee drinks, and, in a majority of locations, gasoline.

In 2022, Wawa announced plans to expand into Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. And, in 2023, the company said it planned to invest $420 million to add 60 stores throughout Indiana over the next decade.

ProjectStory

Zionsville-based ProjectStory, a startup founded by Jeff Wraley that is a spin-off of Wraley’s company, Groundwork, helps homeowners connect with home improvement professionals over video, recently launched.

ProjectStory is starting in Carmel, Westfield and Zionsville and can help people reach contractors who focus on tree care and landscaping, concrete leveling and patios, exterior painting and pressure washing, and fencing and decks.

ProjectStory is free for homeowners and does not require an app to download.

CityVet

CityVet, a national network of 59 veterinarian-owned practices, plans to open this summer 14598 Clay Terrace Blvd. at Clay Terrace in Carmel.

CityVet Carmel will be in a 3,850-square-foot space west of Whole Foods Market. The company plans to open additional locations in the Indianapolis market in the coming years.

VQLabs

VQLabs, which offers health and performance testing and indoor cycling classes, will relocate from Indianapolis to Carmel this month.

Jeremy Wilson opened VQLabs, short for VisionQuest Labs, in 2020 in a 1,800-square-foot space at 8770 Guion Road. The company is expected to open its new 5,300-square-foot Carmel location on May 12 at 800 S. Rangeline Road, Suite 135, at Carmel City Center.

VQLabs will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturdays.
